Public Certified Oat Varieties

ARMOR

  • Similar to Ogle in appearance with excellent resistance to lodging
  • High-yielding varieties, averaging 4 bu/acre higher than Ogle in Ohio tests 
  • Mid-season in maturity, being a day later than Ogle and 2 days earlier than Porter 
  • Stands slightly taller than average when compared to Noble, Ogle and Porter 
  • Moderate resistance to the barley yellow dwarf virus 
  • Released: Ohio, 1991

NOBLE

  • Developed at Purdue in cooperation with USDA/ARS
  • A stiff-strawed mid-season variety
  • Brownish-yellow kernels
  • Moderately resistant to loose smut
  • Released: Ohio, 1973

OGLE

  • Very high yielding, medium maturing variety
  • Compared to the variety Lang, it is higher yielding, several days later, several inches taller, equal in test weight, lodging resistance, and grain quality
  • Yellow, non-fluorescent, slender and finely tapered at the tips kernels
  • Excellent resistance to barley yellow dwarf virus
  • Released: Ohio, 1981
